![]() Would have done Highline trail, but it didn't open until the day we were leaving. Don't let that deter you, it's simply breathtaking and one of my favorites! There are porta-potties found half way to the lake by the falls as well as some right before you get to the lake as well. The plus side is that though it's not a crowded trail, there are enough folks on the trail that you won't feel isolated and you can always hike with another group if you feel nervous. NOTE: Iceberg Lake trail is prime grizzly habitat so plan accordingly. In fact, do what we did and plan to eat lunch at both lakes. We had neither and still managed, but wished we had a stick or better: the spikes.īoth trails (Hidden Lake and Iceberg Lake) are fantastic and shouldn't be missed! Hidden Lake can get a bit crowded so I would plan to hike that one before lunch. If not, then bring a walking stick to help give you some traction on the snow. The microspike idea is a great one! You can buy them for a reasonable price (I picked up a set for my husband on sale for $10) and they slip right over your shoe, plus they're compact and light-easy to throw in a backpack and forget about. Many people did it wearing hiking boots or sneakers (some fools attempted it wearing flip flops, but turned back), but it was a bit slow going. The snow and trail were packed down so you weren't walking through snow drifts or anything, but it was a bit slick. One thing I do want to note is that access to the Hidden Lake overview was completely covered in snow. We were in the park during the second week in July this past summer and both trails were open.
