3/16/2023 0 Comments Black folx podcastI view conducting info chats as a NON-NEGOTIABLE job search activity, especially if you enroll in my 1:1 career coaching program. Instead, I would hit up my existing network and start sending out personalized requests for informational chats.īecause it is statistically MORE likely for someone to get their next (best) job offer through an informational chat versus an online application. If I were laid off from my job today.what do you think I would do?įor one, I would NOT start applying to jobs online. If you want to explore working with me 1:1 in my private career coaching container, set up a call with me (link in bio) to discuss my program and how it can help you get to your next career pit stop - without all the drama, overwhelm & confusion. That's where coaching can really help you. Now, you might have a lot of mental drama or limiting beliefs come up for you as you arrive to this point (ex: "But then that means I'm going to make less money" is a common limiting belief).but you NEED that mental drama stuff to come up in the beginning, and you need to make peace with your Top 3. Once you make that decision, you can immediately eliminate MANY options that won't allow you to achieve that 45-hour per week mark. One of your Top 3 career non-negotiables may be a job that will only expect 45 hours per week from you, not 60+. You might be at a point in your life or career where you'd like to have more personal time in the weekday evenings - time to take care of yourself or be with your family. It's the equivalent of establishing your requirements for your next date: ex: "must not own a cat because I am severely allergic", before getting all dressed up for a date, going on the date, only to realize this person you like owns 5 cats.įor example, let's say one of your biggest pain points is that you often feel burnt out and are regularly working 12-15 hour days. In order to clear the path and achieve career clarity on your next move, you need to begin to eliminate "dead ends" or career duds as potential options. all because you aren't exercising the power of constraint. Not making this decision up front can lead to spinning endlessly on career paths, industries, companies, and role types that are NOT a fit for you and will lead you to where you are today: unhappy, unfulfilled. Instead, they never make this decision and stumble their way through a circus of career options, which often leads to overwhelm and confusion. One of the most common pitfalls that I see career-changers make is not establishing their Top 3 Career Non-Negotiables at the beginning of their journey.
